Savour The Moments

As I have just returned from a vacation, I can't help but reflect on each moment of that vacation and truly savour it....as it was a wonderful, much needed trip for my husband and myself. As a caterer, you are so involved in making special events come true for others that oftentimes you treat your events as just another job, just wanting to get through them and not savouring the moments at all.

On this trip we chose to go to The Texas Hill Country for a restful romantic retreat at a luxurious Inn called Rose Hill Manor. It is touted as a Wine Country Experience and that it is, and much more. Guests there choose their rooms, all themed....ours was the Library Loft which is over the Carriage House with its own private entrance and private deck. This room was beautifully appointed with a large window seat flanked by bookshelves teeming with books of all kinds, from classics to encyclopedias to romance novels. Beautiful rich wood toned king size bed and armoire and hardwoods with cozy rugs and luxurious throws, plush robes and linens, wine glasses, coffee and tea selections, large writing desk, comfy chairs with ottomans, jacuzzi for 2, separate shower area, makeup vanity...you get the picture. See how I remember each detail? I can not remember a time when I felt more relaxed, truly in the moment...and truly savoured each moment as being precious.

We chose to visit several wineries and partake in tastings, had some wonderful food, and experienced nature by hiking (new to me) in two national parks. One in which we hiked up one of only two Granite Rocks (Enchanted Rock) in the world! That was an amazing experience as well. Huffing and puffing up the steep trail, it was truly exhilarating at the top! The other park's (Pedernales Falls) trail held an awesome sight, twin waterfalls in an almost secluded spot with a fabulous viewing perch. You felt a tremendous sense of awe in this revelation and I will never forget it! That was a true WOW factor that I daily strove to provide my customers with for eight long years.

I smiled more on this trip and am smiling right now just thinking of all the many wonderful experiences we had! I can not begin to tell you how blessed I feel and how wonderfully thankful I am for this trip and for all the beauty in this world that was created for us to enjoy and treasure, or savour,  to pen a culinary term. Now, for some of you...this is not an exotic locale...it happens to be just a few hours away from my home, but I have never taken the time to explore and certainly not savour this special place. If this sounds like heaven to you...then take the time to find a particular place where YOU are that you have never explored...go with your love...enjoy each other, and truly SAVOUR each and every special moment and place you explore together. Remember, we are not promised tomorrow and yesterday is gone....be PRESENT today and be THANKFUL for each and every moment!

Here's to your success....I raise my wineglass high,

You Look MAAHHVELOUS!

As I begin my journey to my hairstylist for an overhaul (color, cut, style, etc), I can not help but smile with anticipation. This is a treat that everyone should experience as having a professional make you look your best is priceless! When you leave the salon, you are smiling, your confidence level is soaring, you feel you can take on the world...and truth be told, you can! Now...if we could just translate this into the business world....hmmm. Well...the good news is you can! By practicing 3 daily habits, you can transform yourself everyday at home. How? 1. Read the likes of John Maxwell (my personal favorite) as he is both uplifting and real about leadership:how to develop into one, grow, and mentor and foster others. 2. Daily devotion time: Pray, give thanks, and turn over your cares and concerns to God. After all, he formed you for a purpose. It is said that we all have everything inside us for our mission in life. We just need development. As a person undergoing that develop...

Change:Inevitable, Hard, and Ultimately Positive

The world lost a great man this week....I am of course speaking of Stephen Covey who taught all of us about change. One of the most powerful lessons I have learned from him that I will never forget is that it takes 21 consecutive days to implement a change for it to become a habit. A habit that can totally change your life in a positive direction, such as a healthy eating regimen, an exercise routine, no more smoking....etc. In the business world, time management principles, daily goal setting, to do lists made at the end of each business day for the next...these are all positive habits for everyone seeking success to implement. Why is it that we are so reticent to change? We all know we need to be organized, need to be more productive in our work spaces, need to become more balanced with our home/work life. So WHY don't we JUST DO IT? Because that first step.....admitting to OURSELVES that we need to change is the hardest. We may agree with the media, even our friends that we ne...
