Finding your Passion....."Why?"

When I decided to start my catering business almost 8 years ago, I was so passionate about it...no one or nothing could stop me. Eight years later...that passion has evolved and the underlying feelings have emerged! In order to be successful at ANY business venture, you need to have the passion burning inside you...and the desire to succeed because of your "why?" You are an unstoppable force of nature with abounding energy to make your dreams come true. My passions for cooking, serving, and the love of all things TEA prompted me to open Tea 'n Mystery. Did I listen to all the naysayers who told me it just wouldn't work...etc...no one liked tea, only coffee...etc? NOOOOOO! I did not even give them any space in my head. Just kept my nose to the grindstone and worked and worked. Am I one bit sorry for that? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! I would not be the person today that I am....would not have met wonderful people that I am now proud to call my friends...and would not have learned many invaluable lessons and would have missed out on some awesome experiences, let me tell you!!!

How has my passion evolved? I will always love to cook (just not for money), will always love all things TEA, and will always love serving others....which leads me to my first revelation...what I have is a  SERVANT'S HEART. Now...that is what led me to realize that I can help people in a variety of ways: Missions, Saving Money, Helping them be successful....etc. I do not have to be cooking for 100's of guests (only to find out 55 more are coming that did not RSVP) or schlepping food from Point A to Point B and praying to make some small profits because of unforseen expenses! What if suddenly I had the time and extra income to help even more people? When I suddenly realized that was possible...then I became more interested. So much less stress....so much more socializing...so many more contacts suddenly presenting themselves! WOW! What a difference!

Now....your "why?" is at least as important as your passion...and if it suddenly changes as mine did...then you need to reevaluate in order to be successful. How do your do that? Only by self reflection, quiet time, devotion time, much reading....and prayer. When you rediscover your "why?" then you become a new person...more driven, goal oriented, much less scattered and much less likely to be taken advantage of. I have actually been reintroducing myself lately to my friends as this is a new Sheila, one they have not seen in a while or perhaps at all....Overall, to rave reviews!!! My "why?" changed forever on Sept. 8, 2008 due to a near fatal accident that left my son unable to take over the reins of my company which was the plan all along. Now...my "why?"  has become crystal clear to me: 1. Build a business for he and I that will set him up for continued success and independent living. 2. Retirement income security for my husband and myself.  I am now in the completely refocused phase of learning network marketing from the ground up. It is taking some time...but is paying off as well. I must say I am enjoying the learning as well!!!

Life lesson here: take some time to reevaluate your passions and ESPECIALLY your "why?" and you will be successful at whatever business venture you decide to start! Now...if you have a cup of tea or a glass of wine along the way in your self-discovery...even better!!!

Here's to your success (raising my teacup),

Sheila

Confessions of a Tired Caterer; Burned to a Crisp

Recently, after 8 years of owning my own catering business, Tea 'n Mystery, I announced I was retiring on June 3. I am quite happy with my decision, but it has surprised so many people.....I am surprised. Of course, the ones that were the most surprised never actually worked alongside me...so they never actually experienced all the highs and lows of this business. Truly, I can say to you....unless you are in the ditch digging business...you have probably never worked that hard physically in your life! For a taste of what my days were like....read on...and maybe you will see why at 57, I am retiring and working my Plan B. Typical Day 1 of job: Lists, lists, and more lists. Products needed, serving supplies to retrieve from storage, paper products needed, decorations needed, etc...and then the shopping begins. 1. Restaurant supply for large quantity items 2. Costco for smaller quantities or certain cheeses, fruits, eggs, heavy cream, paper products 3. Party City for decor and or pap...

Making A Difference

Doesn't everyone want to feel like they are making a difference in this world? I know I do! I have met some powerful people this past week who are DEFINITELY making a difference in the world by mentoring, helping the disabled, helping non-profits raise much needed funds, helping restore local treasures, and helping heal broken relationships. What are YOU doing to  make a difference? Need a place to plug in? There is a Senior Job and Volunteer Fair coming up on Tuesday, September 12 in Frisco from 10-3. Maybe you attend and find a place that speaks to you so that you can start volunteering. Maybe your company is looking for some new talent and could look to hire active adult seniors with tons of life experience. This wonderful event is being held at the Frisco Senior Center and is sponsored by The Senior Services Alliance of Frisco, a group of the Frisco Chamber of Commerce. Check this out at www.frisocchamberofcommerce.com Our firm is also sponsoring the Silent Auction Tent a...

Memorial Day Recipe: Red, White and Blueberry Pie

When I think of Memorial Day weekend...I immediately think of sun, water (usually the pools open this weekend), BBQs, and Flags. This is a weekend to enjoy with family and friends, but to remember those who have gone before us as well. Here in the United States, we pause to remember those who gave their lives in service to our country on Memorial Day. I hear "Taps" playing in my head and see images of white crosses lining Arlington National Cemetary. This is a time of remembrance and to count our blessings as well. Hopefully, wherever you are, you have this tradition in one way or another. I have been very blessed in my life and as such...enjoy giving back now...whether in my own community, to disaster victims, to help others get back on their feet, and to raise funds for needed improvements to landmarks, etc. I especially enjoy helping raise funds for programs that offer a hand up, not a hand out to change people's lives forever. All that being said...when you are th...
