Recipe for Success

Along the way in my eight year journey with Tea 'n Mystery, I have learned many lessons, all of them the hard way...I can assure you! But one thing is clear...there is a TRUE recipe for success and it is true in ANY business venture that you start! Want my recipe for success? First...here are some things NOT to do....
1.GO IT ALONE
Think you are different? I did...I thought all these people who kept telling me to educate myself with reading from business leaders like John Maxwell, Jim Rohn, Brian Tracy, Tony Robbins, Steven Covey (who REALLY scared me...yes I admit it) just didn't know or understand what I was about! Surely, if they did...they would understand that I was different and did not need those books to succeed. I had the desire, the innate love of dealing with the public (which in my case translated into pleasing them at all costs to myself and the business), and was a great cook who could follow any recipe out there! Except the recipe that I needed most of all....the RECIPE FOR SUCCESS!!! You must educate yourself and become the leader that you were meant to be before you can expect ANYONE to follow you or success to find you! Personal development is key to anyone's success! Find a Mentor immediately! There are many around you that you admire...just ask them or hire a Business Coach! Barter if necessary, but this is one expense that you DO NOT FORGO or you will be sorry!!!
2. WORK IN YOUR BUSINESS RATHER THAN ON YOUR BUSINESS
If you are spending all your time, and I mean ALL your time...working IN your business, then it will suffer and YOU will suffer as you do not have any time or energy left for others, including your family. This will lead to ultimate disaster unless you recognize it early and nip it in the bud. LEVERAGE is the key here that the rich have always known about....always leverage OTHER PEOPLE's TIME and MONEY and make it work for you! Network Marketing allows that freely...but any other business can show you this model if it is built successfully. Do NOT try to do it all...you will fail miserably and be exhausted to boot! Only hire good people that you can trust.  Find ways to model your business so that you work regular hours, balance it with family and friends, ALWAYS find ways to give back to your community...even when you just get started and you will reap the benefits.
3. EXPECT BUSINESS TO COME TO YOU
Good luck with this one...ok....you have the desire, the energy, the "why" and the talent to succeed...but why aren't you? Oh...did you forget MARKETING?  It has been my experience that no matter how good your products are, no matter how people like you, no matter how YOU know you are better than your competition...if no one else knows this...then???? Marketing is something you have GOT to budget time and money for if you are to succeed! Also...read, read, and read again...educate yourself on all forms of Social Media Marketing and find someone (expert) to help you! This does not have to be EXPENSIVE but needs to be EXTENSIVE! If others can not find you...then you will fail. NETWORKING is key to this objective! You must be networking all the time for your business...or don't worry...your competition will do it for you!
OK....GOT IT? This is my recipe for Success!
1. Read and educate yourself. Find a Mentor or Coach or both.
2. Leverage other's people's expertise to help you...do not try to do it all yourself. Balance your work, family, friend and community time.
3. Marketing and Networking!!!!!

I raise my glass to you today.....Here's to YOUR SUCCESS!

Confessions of a Tired Caterer; Burned to a Crisp

Recently, after 8 years of owning my own catering business, Tea 'n Mystery, I announced I was retiring on June 3. I am quite happy with my decision, but it has surprised so many people.....I am surprised. Of course, the ones that were the most surprised never actually worked alongside me...so they never actually experienced all the highs and lows of this business. Truly, I can say to you....unless you are in the ditch digging business...you have probably never worked that hard physically in your life! For a taste of what my days were like....read on...and maybe you will see why at 57, I am retiring and working my Plan B. Typical Day 1 of job: Lists, lists, and more lists. Products needed, serving supplies to retrieve from storage, paper products needed, decorations needed, etc...and then the shopping begins. 1. Restaurant supply for large quantity items 2. Costco for smaller quantities or certain cheeses, fruits, eggs, heavy cream, paper products 3. Party City for decor and or pap...

Making A Difference

Doesn't everyone want to feel like they are making a difference in this world? I know I do! I have met some powerful people this past week who are DEFINITELY making a difference in the world by mentoring, helping the disabled, helping non-profits raise much needed funds, helping restore local treasures, and helping heal broken relationships. What are YOU doing to  make a difference? Need a place to plug in? There is a Senior Job and Volunteer Fair coming up on Tuesday, September 12 in Frisco from 10-3. Maybe you attend and find a place that speaks to you so that you can start volunteering. Maybe your company is looking for some new talent and could look to hire active adult seniors with tons of life experience. This wonderful event is being held at the Frisco Senior Center and is sponsored by The Senior Services Alliance of Frisco, a group of the Frisco Chamber of Commerce. Check this out at www.frisocchamberofcommerce.com Our firm is also sponsoring the Silent Auction Tent a...

Memorial Day Recipe: Red, White and Blueberry Pie

When I think of Memorial Day weekend...I immediately think of sun, water (usually the pools open this weekend), BBQs, and Flags. This is a weekend to enjoy with family and friends, but to remember those who have gone before us as well. Here in the United States, we pause to remember those who gave their lives in service to our country on Memorial Day. I hear "Taps" playing in my head and see images of white crosses lining Arlington National Cemetary. This is a time of remembrance and to count our blessings as well. Hopefully, wherever you are, you have this tradition in one way or another. I have been very blessed in my life and as such...enjoy giving back now...whether in my own community, to disaster victims, to help others get back on their feet, and to raise funds for needed improvements to landmarks, etc. I especially enjoy helping raise funds for programs that offer a hand up, not a hand out to change people's lives forever. All that being said...when you are th...
