Judy and Sheila's Excellent Adventure Day 2

Have you ever seen anything so totally beautiful you were moved to tears? Well...I hope you make it to The Grand Canyon one day soon. I was so excited about seeing it, had heard so much about it, seen so many pictures, etc....but NOTHING could prepare me for the beauty I experienced today! I have never seen God's handiwork like this....and could never imagine how beautiful and special this place is. I was awestruck the moment I first saw the panorama and just could not take my eyes off the view. We just kept walking and taking pictures, and my feelings just grew! This was one of my Bucket List experiences and Thank You is all I can say. Thank You to God for this magical place, Thank you to my husband for treating me to this trip, Thank you to Judy for coming up with this idea, etc.

We happen to be staying in The Grand Hotel...also a wonderful place that I would highly recommend. It is just minutes from The South Rim and we will continue to enjoy The Grand Canyon tomorrow as we go on a hike labeled "difficult" to see some more interesting parts of the canyon.
We will also be exploring the Grand Canyon Village and seeing the old historic parts there as well.

We have met and chatted with, heard, and seen visitors today from so many countries, it felt like we were at the United Nations today! Here are just a few: England, France (HUGE group), Italy, The Netherlands, India, China, Japan, Germany, Canadians, Russians, Mexico, and more that I could not personally denote. Some shared with us that they were also moved to tears as they saw the awesome wonder of the panoramic vistas. One shed some tears as she was remembering the beauty tonight as we were chatting after dinner.

Lesson for today: We are all one people, separated by place, experience and culture, but brought together to appreciate TRUE BEAUTY in the world.  Now...if we could just build on that commonality....

I raise my glass of Syrah to you in hopes that you too may come to experience this beauty for yourself!

Tomorrow....after all full day here....off to Sedona, a truly magical place....

Confessions of a Tired Caterer; Burned to a Crisp

Recently, after 8 years of owning my own catering business, Tea 'n Mystery, I announced I was retiring on June 3. I am quite happy with my decision, but it has surprised so many people.....I am surprised. Of course, the ones that were the most surprised never actually worked alongside me...so they never actually experienced all the highs and lows of this business. Truly, I can say to you....unless you are in the ditch digging business...you have probably never worked that hard physically in your life! For a taste of what my days were like....read on...and maybe you will see why at 57, I am retiring and working my Plan B. Typical Day 1 of job: Lists, lists, and more lists. Products needed, serving supplies to retrieve from storage, paper products needed, decorations needed, etc...and then the shopping begins. 1. Restaurant supply for large quantity items 2. Costco for smaller quantities or certain cheeses, fruits, eggs, heavy cream, paper products 3. Party City for decor and or pap...

Memorial Day Recipe: Red, White and Blueberry Pie

When I think of Memorial Day weekend...I immediately think of sun, water (usually the pools open this weekend), BBQs, and Flags. This is a weekend to enjoy with family and friends, but to remember those who have gone before us as well. Here in the United States, we pause to remember those who gave their lives in service to our country on Memorial Day. I hear "Taps" playing in my head and see images of white crosses lining Arlington National Cemetary. This is a time of remembrance and to count our blessings as well. Hopefully, wherever you are, you have this tradition in one way or another. I have been very blessed in my life and as such...enjoy giving back now...whether in my own community, to disaster victims, to help others get back on their feet, and to raise funds for needed improvements to landmarks, etc. I especially enjoy helping raise funds for programs that offer a hand up, not a hand out to change people's lives forever. All that being said...when you are th...

Sheila's Senior Adventures

I love the word adventure, don't you? It sounds like so much fun and hopefully it is. When we grow up, sometimes our spirit of adventure suffers from adult syndrome and the fun aspect goes away. Well, I have determined that THE BEST IS YET TO COME for me so....my adventures are just beginning! Whether it is a night out with the girls, day trips in and around our Metroplex, or even exploring true Texas treasures, I LOVE having fun adventures. New experiences are exciting for me and I am finding I meet new friends everywhere! Here are THREE simple ideas: 1.Schedule a GIRLS ONLY night around a shopping/wine/chocolate experience. Suggested location: Watters Creek for all of it. Many dining/wine options, shopping extraordinaire, and Sublime Chocolate to top it off.  2. Invite your neighbors over for a Dinner Club party. How this works is YOU set the theme....such as my last one, A Flip Flop Summer Dinner Party. We made the entree and sent simple recipes out to our friends to pr...
