Judy and Sheila's Excellent Adventure Day 3

Do you believe in Serendipity? We certainly do! Today...the plan was to be out by 9, on the hiking trail by 9:30 and so on....well...that's not exactly what happened. Here is the story....

Do you own a Subaru? If so...then listen up...if the keys are left in the Subaru ignition by accident for even 1 hour (which is what happened this morning), then....it shuts down all power...will not even lock the doors...will not unlock the hatch...etc. We tried to talk with the dealership and they were not helpful...so we found a person at the Lodge who was willing to jump Judy's Subaru and guess what? It worked perfectly!

Now...this took extra time...so we did not get to start the trail until 11:15, but here is where Serendipity comes in to play. This threw us in the mix with so many people in line for the shuttle bus to our planned trailhead. While in line, Judy struck up a conversation with the lady in front...told her our situation and she asked why we were not trying the trail right in front of us...said it was the most popular and we should be able to do this...it was 3 miles...fantastic views...etc. Why did we not know about this trail to start with???? Who knows? But...we were willing to give it a try...and we did with tremendous results as depicted on Facebook...and would never have done so...if had been on time...etc.

Now...on the trail...met soooo many people...have to add some countries to our list...Spain at the top...as we helped motivate a lovely young couple who had hiked all the way to the canyon floor and spent the night only to have to hike back up today....the young lady was in tears as this is an incredible feat that only the expert camper should try...but we took congratulatory pics at the top for them and were soooo happy for them! We also befriended a young Asian couple and I like to think, helped them along as well. We also gave two protein bars to a young couple along the way who were surprised to find no food service along the trail, etc...telling them...this is what friends do! We felt exhilarated beyond belief when we finished the trail. Not bad for two old ladies!!!

The Lesson learned today....NEVER IGNORE seemingly spontaneous interruptions or changes in your plans. You know the old saying....Man makes plans and God laughs...saying "Good Luck with that!!!".

It was a truly wonderful day...we go caught in rain several times...but it cooled us off...we made it to Sedona tonight...had a wonderful dinner...wonderful room with rim views...twinkling lights of Sedona below...we could not ask for a better day!

Tomorrow: Exploring Sedona...will get back to you on this....check FB for pics.

Good night...we raise our Syrah to you!

Confessions of a Tired Caterer; Burned to a Crisp

Recently, after 8 years of owning my own catering business, Tea 'n Mystery, I announced I was retiring on June 3. I am quite happy with my decision, but it has surprised so many people.....I am surprised. Of course, the ones that were the most surprised never actually worked alongside me...so they never actually experienced all the highs and lows of this business. Truly, I can say to you....unless you are in the ditch digging business...you have probably never worked that hard physically in your life! For a taste of what my days were like....read on...and maybe you will see why at 57, I am retiring and working my Plan B. Typical Day 1 of job: Lists, lists, and more lists. Products needed, serving supplies to retrieve from storage, paper products needed, decorations needed, etc...and then the shopping begins. 1. Restaurant supply for large quantity items 2. Costco for smaller quantities or certain cheeses, fruits, eggs, heavy cream, paper products 3. Party City for decor and or pap...

Making A Difference

Doesn't everyone want to feel like they are making a difference in this world? I know I do! I have met some powerful people this past week who are DEFINITELY making a difference in the world by mentoring, helping the disabled, helping non-profits raise much needed funds, helping restore local treasures, and helping heal broken relationships. What are YOU doing to  make a difference? Need a place to plug in? There is a Senior Job and Volunteer Fair coming up on Tuesday, September 12 in Frisco from 10-3. Maybe you attend and find a place that speaks to you so that you can start volunteering. Maybe your company is looking for some new talent and could look to hire active adult seniors with tons of life experience. This wonderful event is being held at the Frisco Senior Center and is sponsored by The Senior Services Alliance of Frisco, a group of the Frisco Chamber of Commerce. Check this out at www.frisocchamberofcommerce.com Our firm is also sponsoring the Silent Auction Tent a...

Memorial Day Recipe: Red, White and Blueberry Pie

When I think of Memorial Day weekend...I immediately think of sun, water (usually the pools open this weekend), BBQs, and Flags. This is a weekend to enjoy with family and friends, but to remember those who have gone before us as well. Here in the United States, we pause to remember those who gave their lives in service to our country on Memorial Day. I hear "Taps" playing in my head and see images of white crosses lining Arlington National Cemetary. This is a time of remembrance and to count our blessings as well. Hopefully, wherever you are, you have this tradition in one way or another. I have been very blessed in my life and as such...enjoy giving back now...whether in my own community, to disaster victims, to help others get back on their feet, and to raise funds for needed improvements to landmarks, etc. I especially enjoy helping raise funds for programs that offer a hand up, not a hand out to change people's lives forever. All that being said...when you are th...
