A Harvest of Blessings Coming Your Way

Right at this moment...I am feeling so overwhelmingly blessed...it is hard to convey! Why? Well, I still am feeling the effects of the Roadtrip throughout the Southwest and all the beauty we witnessed as well as the wonderful people we met along the way. I am excited about the Fall coming (even though today it will be 102 degrees) as it is definitely my favorite time of the year. Football is a big thing at our house, and last night it was competing with the Convention and The US Open so we were watching all three!  The Rangers are still winning and soon we will be playing in the playoffs!!! My Chili Cook Off Charity Event is looming, and donations are coming in well. My son is back in college and is actually enjoying it. I am enjoying cooking again... and trying new recipes! Looking forward to decorating the house for fall...my colors anyway!!! WHEW....See what I mean?

Recently, on FaceBook, there have been several posts with the same theme....Don't Quit as Your Miracle is just around the Corner, etc. I prefer to think of this as your Harvest of Blessings. Especially visually stimulating this time of year. The past two years at our Thanksgiving table, as soon as a guest enters, I explain to them that before we sit down to eat the LARGEST meal of the year, we gather to give thanks each saying something that he or she is thankful for this past year but with a twist. I purchased these stones with words printed on them such as "Blessed, Courage, Friends, Truth, Freedom, Choices, Wisdom, Faithful, Grace, Strength, Kindness, Love, Possibilities, and Dreams. You choose a stone and THEN use it to tell what you are most thankful for. The results have been amazing...yes...you will need a handkerchief, but...also there is laughter and joy in the sharing. I sleep with this little bowl of stones beside my bed and sometimes will pick up one randomly to dwell on as I fall asleep! This is my Harvest of Blessings bowl.

Now...for those that know me...you know I am not immune to adversity, quite the contrary! The 4 year anniversary date of September 8, 2008 is coming soon...the date our whole lives changed in an instant! When I received the call no mother should EVER have to get..."There's been a terrible accident and you need to come to the hospital quickly and I will start praying for your family now!"
My son had been the victim of an accident where he was just trying to push his car off the road and a woman hit him going 60 mph. He had his right leg amputated and his left leg totally rebuilt including a new artery. We were told that out of 100 accidents like his, 5 people survive and 1 walks away. Chad was that ONE!!!! Now...we have been on a LONG journey back and this year has brought more surgery, more hospital visits, and more medications...but also more HOPE! I truly believe Chad is more hopeful now than at any time before, given his circumstances, we are certainly more hopeful...and feeling more BLESSED than ever.

So, for those of you who are feeling at the end of your rope, PLEASE hang on....God is most certainly working on your behalf...you just can not see it yet....PLEASE don't Quit!!!! Your Harvest of Blessings is right around the corner!!!!

Raising my cup of Cinnamon Spice Tea to your success and a prayer for your blessings to appear,

Confessions of a Tired Caterer; Burned to a Crisp

Recently, after 8 years of owning my own catering business, Tea 'n Mystery, I announced I was retiring on June 3. I am quite happy with my decision, but it has surprised so many people.....I am surprised. Of course, the ones that were the most surprised never actually worked alongside me...so they never actually experienced all the highs and lows of this business. Truly, I can say to you....unless you are in the ditch digging business...you have probably never worked that hard physically in your life! For a taste of what my days were like....read on...and maybe you will see why at 57, I am retiring and working my Plan B. Typical Day 1 of job: Lists, lists, and more lists. Products needed, serving supplies to retrieve from storage, paper products needed, decorations needed, etc...and then the shopping begins. 1. Restaurant supply for large quantity items 2. Costco for smaller quantities or certain cheeses, fruits, eggs, heavy cream, paper products 3. Party City for decor and or pap...

Making A Difference

Doesn't everyone want to feel like they are making a difference in this world? I know I do! I have met some powerful people this past week who are DEFINITELY making a difference in the world by mentoring, helping the disabled, helping non-profits raise much needed funds, helping restore local treasures, and helping heal broken relationships. What are YOU doing to  make a difference? Need a place to plug in? There is a Senior Job and Volunteer Fair coming up on Tuesday, September 12 in Frisco from 10-3. Maybe you attend and find a place that speaks to you so that you can start volunteering. Maybe your company is looking for some new talent and could look to hire active adult seniors with tons of life experience. This wonderful event is being held at the Frisco Senior Center and is sponsored by The Senior Services Alliance of Frisco, a group of the Frisco Chamber of Commerce. Check this out at www.frisocchamberofcommerce.com Our firm is also sponsoring the Silent Auction Tent a...

Memorial Day Recipe: Red, White and Blueberry Pie

When I think of Memorial Day weekend...I immediately think of sun, water (usually the pools open this weekend), BBQs, and Flags. This is a weekend to enjoy with family and friends, but to remember those who have gone before us as well. Here in the United States, we pause to remember those who gave their lives in service to our country on Memorial Day. I hear "Taps" playing in my head and see images of white crosses lining Arlington National Cemetary. This is a time of remembrance and to count our blessings as well. Hopefully, wherever you are, you have this tradition in one way or another. I have been very blessed in my life and as such...enjoy giving back now...whether in my own community, to disaster victims, to help others get back on their feet, and to raise funds for needed improvements to landmarks, etc. I especially enjoy helping raise funds for programs that offer a hand up, not a hand out to change people's lives forever. All that being said...when you are th...
