Graduation Season

Well, it is Graduation Season now.... and we have been going to many graduation parties for our neighbors' children, our friends' children and grandchildren. This is a monumental day for any teenager, parent, or grandparent alike and there is nothing like that feeling! A feeling of accomplishment, a scary feeling of the unknown, excitement for the new life beginning, and prayers of thanksgiving for their lives.

I remember this day like it was yesterday... Chad was excited, but probably not as excited as we were! Our only child graduating from High School with a College Scholarship and the world was going to be his oyster. It was pouring down rain that day, but nothing could dampen our spirits.
We had a big party that weekend with family and friends, lots of food and drink, and of course, pictures to commemorate the day.

As I look on him today, 10 years later, I am so very proud of the young man he is becoming. Hard lessons he has learned, and he has had more than his share of heartache to be sure, but, by the amazing grace of God, he has come through it all and now reaches out to those he can help by offering his story of hurt and healing.

Lessons we, as his parents have learned:
 1. Love your child to the moon and back, but let them fail and do not try to fix things. Let them learn from their mistakes and listen as much as they will let you.
2. Realize your child is becoming an adult and prepare legally for this step with appropriate legal documents. EVERY ADULT needs the following documents: Last Will and Testament, Durable Power of Attorney, Medical Power of Attorney, Advanced Medical Directive, HIPPA Release form and Declaration of Guardian just in case.
3. Take out accident insurance that is offered to you by the college. It is inexpensive and you have no idea how important it might become.
4. Pray every day for your child, no matter what! You will not agree with all of their choices, but pray that they always know God's love and that they will ultimately find the plan for their lives and follow it.
5. Celebrate every milestone with family and friends. The stronger their family ties, the less likely they are to withdraw and become vulnerable to less desirable groups who prey on loners.

Enjoy every minute of this special time as you have earned it!

Savour The Moments

As I have just returned from a vacation, I can't help but reflect on each moment of that vacation and truly savour it....as it was a wonderful, much needed trip for my husband and myself. As a caterer, you are so involved in making special events come true for others that oftentimes you treat your events as just another job, just wanting to get through them and not savouring the moments at all. On this trip we chose to go to The Texas Hill Country for a restful romantic retreat at a luxurious Inn called Rose Hill Manor. It is touted as a Wine Country Experience and that it is, and much more. Guests there choose their rooms, all themed....ours was the Library Loft which is over the Carriage House with its own private entrance and private deck. This room was beautifully appointed with a large window seat flanked by bookshelves teeming with books of all kinds, from classics to encyclopedias to romance novels. Beautiful rich wood toned king size bed and armoire and hardwood...

You Look MAAHHVELOUS!

As I begin my journey to my hairstylist for an overhaul (color, cut, style, etc), I can not help but smile with anticipation. This is a treat that everyone should experience as having a professional make you look your best is priceless! When you leave the salon, you are smiling, your confidence level is soaring, you feel you can take on the world...and truth be told, you can! Now...if we could just translate this into the business world....hmmm. Well...the good news is you can! By practicing 3 daily habits, you can transform yourself everyday at home. How? 1. Read the likes of John Maxwell (my personal favorite) as he is both uplifting and real about leadership:how to develop into one, grow, and mentor and foster others. 2. Daily devotion time: Pray, give thanks, and turn over your cares and concerns to God. After all, he formed you for a purpose. It is said that we all have everything inside us for our mission in life. We just need development. As a person undergoing that develop...

Free by Choice

As I sit here reflecting on the upcoming celebration of America's Independence, of COURSE I am humbled by all those who came before us to give us the freedoms we have today. There were those, who from the beginning, thought only of others when fighting for the rights that we take for granted today. Just take a stroll down the streets of Philadelphia or Boston or Charleston sometime....and if that does not fill you with awe and an incredible amount of gratitude...then you are not alive. Now we honor their memories and legacies and continue to fight for the rights of those who will come after us...our children and their children, by striving for freedom for ALL, not just the wealthy and privileged, but all human beings have the right to be free. Are their sacrifices involved? Yes, and there always will be. But we will continue to CHOOSE Freedom for all, no matter the cost, to honor those who made that choice for us! This means standing up for what you believe to be right in your ...
