When Opportunity Knocks, Then What?

I will be forever grateful that I took the plunge, started my own catering company from scratch...never borrowed any money...it was all on me. That being said...if I had it all to do over again, I would do things differently, I would go big and take MORE risks. But that is hindsight...which as we know...is ALWAYS 20/20!

I am, by nature, a truly blessed person who wakes up thanking God every day of her life! For...blessings bestowed, family and friends, AND opportunities which appear EVERY day! They are abundant if you just open your eyes and ears to them. Actually some negative things that have happened to me have wound up the biggest opportunities for growth imaginable. Example: Years ago, my husband and I were to close on what was to be our Dream Home. Unfortunately, our Realtor (also the Broker in our case) was brand new in the business (unknown to us) and an odd thing happened to delay the closing for three days in which he chose not to answer any of our phone calls leaving us stranded...movers waiting on our front lawn...and we had to make a choice as to where to go. The logical choice was to rent a property (which required security deposit, first and last month's rent, etc.) and we did just that. Three days after we had moved, he called and announced they were ready to close. Obviously, we were not, having spent several thousand dollars on this move. We had to forfeit most of our down payment because they claimed we were backing out of the contract. A horrible experience but it led to several things.
1. ALWAYS check out a Realtor for experience level, etc.
2. We moved one block from a large church which became our church home and one of my top five blessings in my life period.
3. We made so many friends that would become life long friends due to that move.
4. Our son received the very best elementary education imaginable.
The point of this example is that we were faced with a sudden choice which forever changed our lives. We could have stayed with family, kept trying to reach the Realtor, etc. but we opted for Plan B. Plan B has definitely changed our lives for the better and this unfortunate experience became a huge blessing in disguise!

How would you feel if you were one of the people who was offered the initial GOOGLE offering and turned it down? Apple? Too risky at the time...but now???? Sometimes...blessings come in the form on a risky opportunity borne out of a choice. Don't suffer the pangs of regret later because of fear today....when opportunity knocks, ANSWER IT!!! There are simply two kinds of people in this world we live in today: ones that are glad that they did, and ones that wished that they would have.

You Look MAAHHVELOUS!

As I begin my journey to my hairstylist for an overhaul (color, cut, style, etc), I can not help but smile with anticipation. This is a treat that everyone should experience as having a professional make you look your best is priceless! When you leave the salon, you are smiling, your confidence level is soaring, you feel you can take on the world...and truth be told, you can! Now...if we could just translate this into the business world....hmmm. Well...the good news is you can! By practicing 3 daily habits, you can transform yourself everyday at home. How? 1. Read the likes of John Maxwell (my personal favorite) as he is both uplifting and real about leadership:how to develop into one, grow, and mentor and foster others. 2. Daily devotion time: Pray, give thanks, and turn over your cares and concerns to God. After all, he formed you for a purpose. It is said that we all have everything inside us for our mission in life. We just need development. As a person undergoing that develop...

Judy and Sheila's Excellent Adventure: Home Stretch

Well...sad as we were to leave...we are also glad to be home safely! We left Lubbock by 10 this morning and were home safely a little after 4 today!  We chose the small town route...a scenic route...other than the Interstate and it was certainly more interesting viewing. I downloaded my pictures today and am very excited to report most are quite good and am going to print some picture books with my Creative Memories Consultant, Deb Ramsey. That way they are recorded for all time!!! My generous husband...for providing me this opportunity...and I were recapping the trip and how it has expanded my viewpoints on our America the Beautiful. Truly, we were in three of the most beautiful places in America for sure. The Grand Canyon...Sedona...and Santa Fe. All three different, but all three very special indeed. Then add in...The London Bridge, The Meteor Crater, Albuquerque, etc....and you have the best that the Southwest has to offer!!! I must admit...I was happy to see my Texas Sta...

Graduation Season

Well, it is Graduation Season now.... and we have been going to many graduation parties for our neighbors' children, our friends' children and grandchildren. This is a monumental day for any teenager, parent, or grandparent alike and there is nothing like that feeling! A feeling of accomplishment, a scary feeling of the unknown, excitement for the new life beginning, and prayers of thanksgiving for their lives. I remember this day like it was yesterday... Chad was excited, but probably not as excited as we were! Our only child graduating from High School with a College Scholarship and the world was going to be his oyster. It was pouring down rain that day, but nothing could dampen our spirits. We had a big party that weekend with family and friends, lots of food and drink, and of course, pictures to commemorate the day. As I look on him today, 10 years later, I am so very proud of the young man he is becoming. Hard lessons he has learned, and he has had more than his ...
