To Act or Not To Act?

Today I was in my car, again listening to a SUCCESS Magazine DVD and Seth Godin was one of the contributors. He was talking about the importance of marketing NOW, not tomorrow...not next week...but NOW before any more time elapses. Is procrastination killing you? Do you feel if you send out some mass emails, print out some flyers, and mail out some postcards that you are done?
How about if you buy some print ads in magazines? You've spent all your "marketing budget" so you must be done, right?

Well...the world is changing so rapidly now that if you do not change your marketing strategy, you may not make it much longer. Ever heard that before? Want to change but don't know what to do?
Well...the problem is not one that you can just throw money at UNLESS you hire a true professional to do it for you ( if you are interested...email me and I can recommend some very good ones ). But, if you want and need to do this yourself...just DO it...do not wait for the next new thing...or it may be too late!

When I first started my catering business 8 years ago, I wasted sooo much money on advertising that did not work for me, and it may not work for you today! People want personal recommendations for goods and services now...not pushy salespeople and generally only look at those ads for coupons! They want to know someone trusts you and has had a good experience with you...then THEY feel they can trust you and have a good experience with you. Obviously...the basis for relationship marketing...the most trusted marketing that exists!  The best news about this form of marketing? It does not cost you any money, other than if you buy a cup of coffee here, a lunch there for your friends and family to get you started.

But...unlike traditional advertising...you MUST ACT on this...this is not passive like mailing, printing, etc. You must make the first move. Make sure you are truly interested in sharing with the friend/family member you take to coffee, lunch...and find out their story...what is new in their life FIRST! Then, and ONLY then do you mention your product, service, or business opportunity to them. If they feel you are genuinely interested in them, then they are much more likely to become interested in what you have to say. This is undoubtedly the most potent form of marketing period!

Then, always follow up with them. An email or a personal note (best) telling them how wonderful it was to catch up with them and hear what is new with them, etc. is the best way to set yourself apart from others as someone who truly cares. If they have mentioned some need that you can refer, then immediately do so. They will remember this and YOU! (Givers Gain Philosophy)

You Look MAAHHVELOUS!

As I begin my journey to my hairstylist for an overhaul (color, cut, style, etc), I can not help but smile with anticipation. This is a treat that everyone should experience as having a professional make you look your best is priceless! When you leave the salon, you are smiling, your confidence level is soaring, you feel you can take on the world...and truth be told, you can! Now...if we could just translate this into the business world....hmmm. Well...the good news is you can! By practicing 3 daily habits, you can transform yourself everyday at home. How? 1. Read the likes of John Maxwell (my personal favorite) as he is both uplifting and real about leadership:how to develop into one, grow, and mentor and foster others. 2. Daily devotion time: Pray, give thanks, and turn over your cares and concerns to God. After all, he formed you for a purpose. It is said that we all have everything inside us for our mission in life. We just need development. As a person undergoing that develop...

Memorial Day Recipe: Red, White and Blueberry Pie

When I think of Memorial Day weekend...I immediately think of sun, water (usually the pools open this weekend), BBQs, and Flags. This is a weekend to enjoy with family and friends, but to remember those who have gone before us as well. Here in the United States, we pause to remember those who gave their lives in service to our country on Memorial Day. I hear "Taps" playing in my head and see images of white crosses lining Arlington National Cemetary. This is a time of remembrance and to count our blessings as well. Hopefully, wherever you are, you have this tradition in one way or another. I have been very blessed in my life and as such...enjoy giving back now...whether in my own community, to disaster victims, to help others get back on their feet, and to raise funds for needed improvements to landmarks, etc. I especially enjoy helping raise funds for programs that offer a hand up, not a hand out to change people's lives forever. All that being said...when you are th...

Recipe for Success

Along the way in my eight year journey with Tea 'n Mystery, I have learned many lessons, all of them the hard way...I can assure you! But one thing is clear...there is a TRUE recipe for success and it is true in ANY business venture that you start! Want my recipe for success? First...here are some things NOT to do.... 1.GO IT ALONE Think you are different? I did...I thought all these people who kept telling me to educate myself with reading from business leaders like John Maxwell, Jim Rohn, Brian Tracy, Tony Robbins, Steven Covey (who REALLY scared me...yes I admit it) just didn't know or understand what I was about! Surely, if they did...they would understand that I was different and did not need those books to succeed. I had the desire, the innate love of dealing with the public (which in my case translated into pleasing them at all costs to myself and the business), and was a great cook who could follow any recipe out there! Except the recipe that I needed most of all....t...
